SCHOOL DISTRICT PROBLEMS

Many school districts within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been demanding more than the home education law
(Act 169 of 1988) requires. It is our desire to collect this information and use it to advocate on behalf of home educators.
You can help fellow home educators by reporting infractions.

Examples of problems include, but are not limited to:

(1) Districts requiring a copy of your high school diploma or its equivalent if you already attest to receiving same in your affidavit

(2) Requests for face-to-face meetings with the superintendent or other representative of the district

(3) Districts not “accepting” affidavits

(4) Districts requiring something specific in objectives

(5) Districts specifying the content of student’s portfolio

(6) Districts requiring a detailed “log of instructional activity”

(7) Districts threatening truancy proceedings

(8) Districts requiring detailed medical information
